Introduction
The New Machine is curently under construction. This machine will be the very useful in investigating the reaction dynamics of the interaction of nickel with hydrogen and small hydrocarbons. It will feature a rotable source for angularly resolved mass spectrometric detection of scattered products, like the big machine. However, it will also be able to investigate the state of adsorbates on the surface (and in the bulk of the nickel) through High Resolution Electron Energy Loss Spectrometry (HREELS).
Planned features
- Triply Differentially Pumped Rotatable Molecular Beam Source.
- Molecular Beam Precisely Coupled to Ultra High Vacuum Scattering Chamber.
- Single Crystal Nickel (111)
- Rotatable Crystal Mount on Liquid N2 Cooled Manipulator
- High Resolution Electron Energy Loss Spectrometer (HREELS)
- Reflection Absorption Infrared Spectroscopy (RAIRS)
- Line of Sight Mass Spectrometer for Unambiguous Thermal Desorption Spectrometry
- Chopper Disc for Time of Flight Analysis
- Residual Gas Analysis Mass Spectrometer Detector
- Auger Electron Spectrometer (AES)
- X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (XPS)
